WHAT IS
YOGA THERAPY?
The International Association of Yoga Therapy published a new and improved definition of Yoga Therapy. Have a look...
"Yoga therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups."
How it works
In yoga therapy the role of the practitioner is to help EMPOWER individuals accomplish their goals. We use the Kosha Model* ( Kosha= Sheath in Sanskrit, 5 layers: body, energy, mind, wisdom & bliss) to assess a person. We are multidimensional beings, so it is vital that we consider the WHOLE aspects of being on multiple levels that are interconnected.
Each session will be tailored to the individual need/goal of the client. We begin with an assessment and we will work together on co-creating an appropriate plan - which may shift as times goes by. This can be helpful for someone looking to start their own yoga practice, fine-tune alignment, develop creative expression, self care rituals, rehab an injury, pain management, cultivate inner peace (via breath-work, meditation, mantras + mudras), lifestyle changes (improve sleep habits, positive self talk, exercise, stress-reduction).
Each session may also be infused with assisted stretching, reiki,
somatic Thai massage, fascial energy release, audio recordings, and infographics
*Kosha Model: yoga therapy is a combination of physical therapy, psychotherapy, spiritually counseling : models to address challenges on every level of being.
